The pumpkins are here ... we're getting ready!

Looking forward to seeing lots of people at our Autumn Harvest event this Saturday 19th October, 1-4pm!
The soup recipes have been sorted, activities decided upon and pumpkins and apples are at the ready.
Bring your own cup for a price discount on tea or coffee.
Don't worry about the weather - there's lots of cover if rain is forecast.

Moths from moth night

We saw a good number of moths at our moth night in July.  Here's a couple of pictures of moths found at DigIn and another that was caught elsewhere.

Biodiversity at Dig In

Just a few pictures of the wonderful flowers we've grown at Dig In this summer.  They've been attracting many different insects and have been enjoyed by all of us on site.

We are going to be holding a moth watch at Dig In on Saturday 6th July from 9pm. A moth expert will be on site with all of the equipment necessary to attract moths so that we can see what types are present at Dig In!

Wonderful afternoon!

A big THANK YOU to everyone who came to Dig In's Summer Event yesterday afternoon and made it so special!
It was surely a warm day, but there was plenty of shade under our marquee, gazebos & shady tree area to escape the sun.
The cream teas & other cakes were delicious!  Thanks to all for doing the baking, there's nothing like home-made!
About 100 visitors came to enjoy the atmosphere and linger in the shade with a nice cuppa or cold drink.
Children were kept amused with a coconut shy, hopscotch, hook-a-duck, and craft activities and there was the raffle & tombola and of course, some plants available.

Thanks Team Dig In for all of the effort that went into making a very enjoyable afternoon, and a special mention to the catering team in the (rather warm!) shed & to Debbie in the polytunnel/sauna!

Check out our Nature based workshops over the coming weeks & book on if you're interested. There's one happening in each of July, August & September.

Our Harvest event day will be towards the end of October, date as yet to be decided - check the Dig In calendar nearer the time.

Dig In are joining in with the war against single use plastics!
If you're coming along to our Summer Event on the 29th June, please bring your own drinking cup. There are some fab bamboo ones you can buy now, complete with safety lid.
If, for example, you want a Strawberry cream tea, the donation price will be £2.50....use your own cup and the price will be £2.00!
More and more places are encouraging people to take their own cups everywhere. Hope you can join in........you know it makes sense! 

Strawberry Cream tea on Digin's orchard Sat 29th June 1-4pm

Dig In's summer event this year will be a strawberry cream tea on the lawn!

There'll be all the usual activities -
Raffle/tombola; children's games on the lawn; nature activities - treasure hunt, making pipecleaner dragonflies, sowing seeds, etc. and just enjoying the tranquil environment of the allotment.  Of course, a smashing strawberry cream tea will be available along with other cakes no doubt!

Nature based workshops for 2019

Dig In are running a number of nature based workshops over the next few months.

June 15th - Pond dipping
July 13th - Bugs & beasties
August 17th - Bird boxes
September 14th - Insect homes

All workshops start at 1.30pm and finish at 3pm.

Bird Feeder Workshop Saturday 13th April 2019

We're running a wild bird feeder workshop on Saturday 13th April 2019, 1.30pm - 3pm.

This workshop is suitable for adults and children over 8 years when supervised by a responsible adult.

Places are limited for this free workshop so if you'd like to take part, please book by emailing

The workshop will take place either outdoors or in an unheated polytunnel if its raining, so please dress according to the weather.

Donations of any size welcomed to help cover costs.
